I came into Hearts for Moms and had no expectations from this program, but I am thankful to have a group where we can stand firm on our beliefs and help each other from falling down by holding one another. Even though we have relatives that live only miles away, my family are my children and perfect strangers that are led into my path have become family... and this group feels like one!
Jessica, Workforce Moms Program
The Workforce Moms program serves young single moms that are twenty six years old and above with children under 18 years of age.
Our strategy is key to the mom's success in order for them to personally grow and achieve their goals.
This program offers four key pillars:
Each mom is matched with her own Christian mentor to encourage and walk along side her and her child imparting wisdom and God's love. Mentors have the opportunity to demonstrate love and speak truth by holding the moms accountable for their actions and decisions.
We not only attend to the needs of the moms, but also evaluate her child's necessities. Through our community partnerships, the children have received services such as Speech Therapy, Learning Disabilities Evaluations, Tutoring, Eye Care Exams and more. Our job is to serve the whole family!
Workforce moms want to belong to a community that supports her choice to parent her precious child. They often feel alone as either family or friends are not walking along-side of them through their difficult journey. We are a family, as there is a "life-term" bond that happens amongst the moms and their children, mentors, staff, volunteers and everyone involved in the organization!
Moms commit to attend weekly classes that are tailored around the moms needs. Leaders in our community teach classes which include topics to develop skills on parenting , finances, jobs skills, educational counseling, debt reduction, healthy lifestyles, cooking and much more. Some of these topics for the Workforce moms are more in depth as this age group is further along their journey.
Without a career path the moms will continue the cycle of working poverty and it is highly likely their children will follow their footsteps. Therefore, encouraging the Workforce moms to explore career paths will lead to more financial freedom. This will not only change their future, but it will impact the lives of their children.
The Program Directors recognize individual goals the moms must set and achieve throughout the year. Many of the Workforce set goals to complete their degree, pay off debt, improve their credit, grow spiritually and more. Achieving goals brings them a step closer to independence!
Assigning each mom with their own Financial Coach is a game changer for learning to set realistic budgets and accomplishing financial goals such as: Emergency Funds, Debt Elimination, Saving for their first home, Taxes, and much more. In addition, financial classes are held addressing current and relevant information for the moms and their children throughout the year.
We are intentional on encouraging personal growth in our moms. We focus on their emotional, physical and spiritual well-being in order for the moms to fulfill the abundant life that God has planned for them.
The funds raised helps Workforce Moms supplement the high cost of Housing, Childcare, Education, Transportation, Mental Health Counseling, other basic needs, and unexpected emergencies.
Without the program's financial support, the moms and their children can face the possibility of entering into the downward cycle of poverty that can ultimately lead to homelessness. If they are not able to afford childcare or have proper transportation, they will not be able to work-full time.
A GREATER EXPECTATION FOR THEIR FUTURE!
A high level of commitment is required for a mom to be accepted into and remain in the program. Moms commit to achieving goals, attending weekly classes, working and/or going to school, and accepting guidance from the HFM team that walks this journey with her- her Director, Mentor, Financial Coach, etc.
Building relationships with each other and those around them, effectively communicating and belonging to community are essential for long-term success!
As moms commit to the program, overtime we have witnessed continuous positive change. Cycles are broken and as a result a mom's life is radically changed as well as that of her child or children. A Workforce mom must be willing to have a teachable spirit in order to see change in her life!
